The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
