One 60-day voyage circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the party for a pause. The vessel departed without her and returned later that day after the crew became aware the passenger was missing.

An extensive hunt discovered her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be given a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its return.

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the 80-year-old's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who generally pay large sums of money to join the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the liner left the island after an scheduled outing without my parent".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a walking group.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She continued that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mother's being".
